This week we launched a study of Marc Brown, local children's book author and illustrator. The class learned that Marc Brown, best known for the Arthur series, was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Massachusetts early in his career. As a child, Brown loved hearing stories told by his Grandma Thora and discovered his love of drawing. Later in life, Brown created the character Arthur the Aardvark as a bedtime story for his son, Tolon.
Since learning about Brown's life and career, 1-B students have enjoyed hearing books from the Arthur series. After each book, students write a response to a question about the book and draw a picture to match.
Our Marc Brown author study will conclude with our first grade field trip to the Boston Children's Museum, which contains a wonderful Aurthur exhibit.
